La Piazza is a small Southern Italian restaurant located just across the street from the Braddock Road Metro, and is only a short walk from Old Town Alexandria. The food is terrific, homemade-style and prepared by chef Carlo Pascarella and his capable staff. Carlo originally intended to open a restaurant in Annapolis, but stopped in Alexandria to eat and decided that Alexandria was the place.

where Carlo grew up. Carlo says:
“The square is the center of life over there. Let’s go to the piazza!”

La Piazza means “the square,” but there is nothing square about this eatery. Portions are generous. The sauces change weekly. The fresh bread is from a local bakery. For lunch there is an extensive menu of hot and cold subs. La Piazza is suitable for a nice romantic meal, but is also very child friendly… and so it has become a very popular dining spot in the neighborhood.

Make sure you try the bucatini all' Amatriciana, with thick hollow pasta with pancetta, tomato sauce, and pecorino, or the penne radicchio. Other treats that will satisfy your taste buds are the Insalata Capresse (Ripe Tomato and Buffalo Mozzarella Cheese and Basil Salad), Farfalle Gongozola (Chicken, Spinach with a creamy Gongonzola sauce) and the Capellini Taormina (Shrimp, Clams, Scallops, Mussels, with a light red sauce).
